This censorship impacts many emojis with well-documented NSFW connotations, as well as objects that are legally unavailable to minors in most countries (such as 🍺 Beer Mug and 🚬 Cigarette). While Roblox supports emojis from up to 2019’s Emoji 12.1, certain emojis are censored by Roblox chat and are instead displayed as one or more hashtag “#” symbols. This means that emojis in Roblox appear the same as they do on the  website and on Twitter for Android. Since emojis were introduced to the platform in 2017, Roblox has used Twitter’s open source Twemoji designs to display emojis. Online game platform Roblox includes emoji support within its in-game chat and friend list messaging features.
